Cold-rolled low carbon steel coils are products that are further processed from hot-rolled steel coils by cooling annealing or temper rolling at room temperature. During cold rolling, the cooled hot rolled coil passes through another set of rolls at room temperature. Since the material is no longer hot and ductile, significantly higher pressures are required to compress it into the desired shape. Compared to hot rolling, cold rolling produces coils with tighter dimensional tolerances and a wider range of surface finishes.

Cold rolled steel has several advantages over hot rolled steel, such as:

Higher Strength: Cold rolled steel is 20% stronger than hot rolled steel, making it more suitable for high stress applications.

Better surface finish: Parts and products made from cold-rolled steel often have a smooth, shiny surface that is free of rust and scale.

Greater precision: Unlike hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel does not shrink after forming. This quality allows the creation of highly precise components with little to no secondary machining.
